Job Posting – Mechanical Designer/Drafter

Position Type: Full Time, Salary

Salary Range: 32-42K/year BOE

Job Function and Responsibilities:

Create innovative designs using SolidWorks and other 3D CAD systems. Specifically, the candidate must be able to:

  • Produce CAD models and 2D drawings
  • Design components for manufacturability
  • Perform preliminary mechanical analyses
  • Seek out new clients and new opportunities
  • Perform all work with minimal supervision while working as part of a distributed team

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3000+ hours of 3D CAD experience in a working environment
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar 2D CAD system
  • Familiarity with ANSI/ASME drawing standards for 2D drawing layout
  • Familiarity with structural/mechanical design and the creation of weldments and machined components
  • Must be eligible to work in U.S. without Visa sponsorship
  • Must be willing to work in Logan, UT

How does this position fit within the company?

At Apollo Engineering, a designer/drafter is responsible for a majority of the CAD work, both 3D and 2D. This role interfaces with engineers to determine what the design must accomplish and if the design is adequate. Following design completion, the designer/drafter is responsible to create drawings that communicate the design intent and the design limits. This is accomplished primarily through 2D shop drawings following the applicable ANSI/ASME standards, Apollo best practices, and the specific requirements of the client.

Job Function and Responsibilities:

Provide engineering support and project oversight. Create innovative designs using SolidWorks and other 3D CAD systems and perform stress analyses using Ansys Workbench, all while working from the comfort of home. Specifically, the candidate must be able to:

  • Perform engineering analyses and evaluate custom mechanical components and assemblies
  • Source appropriate buyout components for use in designs
  • Design components for manufacturability and perform value engineering analyses
  • Provide prototype testing support and document results
  • Document all engineering and designs
  • Interface with clients for design presentations
  • Serve as a Project Engineer when needed, providing technical expertise and guidance
  • Seek out new clients and new opportunities

Skills and Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 4+ years of post-degree engineering and design experience
  • 3000+ hours of 3D CAD experience in a working environment
  • Experience with FEA methods and software
  • Familiarity with elctro-mechanical integration (preferred)
  • Previous Project Engineering experience including management of small teams
  • Must be eligible to work in U.S. without Visa sponsorship

Within Apollo Engineering, a Project Engineer is responsible for oversight of various project aspects, up to and including entire projects. This role interfaces with senior engineers, associate engineers and designer/drafters to complete project deliverables as determined by contract. The project engineer is also responsible to review designs and drawings and communicate changes to the appropriate project members. Project Engineers are required to interface with clients both face-to-face and virtually to present engineering and represent the company with dignity.
